how has a good diet and medication helped you with your mental illness?

do you think a good diet and exercise helps a great deal towards having a good mental health?

well, i started exercising alot and got extremely skinny, i guess that did help with feeling better with myself, but then i put the weight back on when i started eating again. So no, that didn’t go to plan or make me feel any better. Medication.. hmm, well i started out on Prozac [fluoxetine] at first my mood got even worse, i became rather suicidal, but then my mood evened out, i found i started to feel extremely zombie like and couldn’t really feel much emotion, which i also hated. I was on it for about 6 months or something before it started to stop having an affect on me, I then changed to collitipram? or something like that which i am currently on, again like with prozac at first it went downhill but now it has stabilized, but i have no motivation to do anything, my education is being greatly affected [im 14] but with everyone it is different, and it might go well for you, i’d say give it a try because you never know, good luck:) xx

Exercise can have a big effect but getting the motivation to do it can be difficult.

Eating well is good for physical and mental well-being, I suppose more as a long-term preventative. There aren’t really many foods you can eat that will be a instant cure, except sugary foods which will lead to a rebound drop in blood sugar.

I find Vitamin B supplements good for when I’m anxious. I am moving towards eating more fruit and vegetables in my diet. I try to get ‘5 a Day’ though it is hard, but it remains to be seen if I will be feeling well!
